Find it tough when it comes to sorting out what goes into your MetaTags? Here is the dummies guide to good MetaTag writing which is a great blend between meeting SEO requirements and acting as good click bait.

First of all, here are some facts you must know:

* The 3 metatags you care about is the Page Title, Description and Meta Keywords.
* The order of importance is: Title, then Description then Keywords. In fact, the weighting of the page title is probably more important than any other single on-page factor.
* And yes, order counts. So when optimising for "Budget Car Rental" you better make sure that the page title starts with Budget Car Rental.

So let's use "Budget Car Rental" for a company called ABC Cars. ABC Cars specialises in holiday car rentals around the world. It is a website where you can find bargain car rentals anywhere in the world and make a booking all online. The goal is to sell rentals online with a credit card.

And if you find the construct a little limiting, well it's designed that way. A single web page just simply cannot be about every single topic in the world. If optimising for "Budget Car Rental", guess what: your page needs to be about Budget Car Rental(s).

So for the purpose of this exercise, let's assume there is a page that lists budget cars for rentals. The steps are simple:

1. List all the keywords you want to be found on, in a priority from most important to least important. These are often derivatives of the search term you may want to go for. Remember that these keywords MUST be relevant to the content on the page.
2. Then list all the keywords that make this page relevant to your website. The obvious ones are:
1. Your Business Name
2. Your Website Address
3. Your Locality
3. Then list the 2 main selling factors for the page that you want to attract viewers for.
4. Apply the Title and Keyword strategy as proposed below.

For ABC Cars that could be as follows:

Now apply the following formula:

, or , or from Business Name. First Selling Point.

Description:

, Second Selling Point. Only from ,

Keywords:

Then list all the keywords in the order of Desired Keywords followed by Relevant keywords.

The final step, rewrite the 2 selling points to incorporate verbs, adjectives or nouns that you may have missed. A good point to note is that you don't need to duplicate the singular and plural versions in Titles and Descriptions. Search engines generally treat them the same.

Our example with ABC Cars would read:

Budget Car Rental, hire or lease cheap vehicles from ABC Cars. From only $20 per day

Description:

Budget Car Rental, we offer cheap cars at a 10% price promise and will beat all car rental quotes by 10%. Only available from abccars.com, Australia, New Zealand or anywhere worldwide.
