PARIS - More than 10 percent flights were disrupted as French aviation workers on Monday staged a nationwide four-day strike against law which they say threatened their right to strike.

Hundreds of pilots, flight attendants and ground staff joined the demonstration at Paris' Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports, stopping traffic between terminals.

To limit the damage from the strike, the Paris airports authority said carriers like Air France had cancelled or rescheduled roughly 100 flights in advance.

The country's leading carrier also advised its passengers to check the company's website at least 24 hours before leaving to catch their flights.

As the strike is going to enter its second day, Air France expects to fly over 50 percent of its long-haul flights on Tuesday.

French aviation unions called for the strike over a draft law approved by France's lower house in January which requires aviation workers to give 48 hours notice before going on strike so as to ensure minimum service during industrial actions.

But the unions see these requirements as extra pressure on employees choosing to strike, worrying that the impact of strikes would be lessened.
